[Also in Group XIII] The spaced corrugated plates of a liquid cooler element of the kind described in Specifications 605,615 and 675,601, [both in Group XIII], are joined together along the corrugated edges by immersing the edges 16 of the assembled spaced plates 13 in a solder bath conforming to the shape of the edges to form a solder plug 18 between the plates and reinforcing solder flanges 19 on the exterior surfaces. The solder bath is formed by a sinuous groove 7 in the upper surface of a plate 6 supported by frame members 2, 3 and 5. The underside of the plate is first heated by a gas burner 8, the edges of the plates 13 are immersed in the molten solder and then the gas is turned off and the plate 6 cooled by water-jets from pipes 11 to solidify the solder. |
