An operation method of a reinforcing bar binding machine includes an initializing operation. During the initializing operation, a cutter of a wire cutting mechanism (5,10) shuts off a wire passageway, a wire is fed by a wire feed mechanism while the wire passageway remains shut off, and the wire feed mechanism is stopped when a leading end of the wire butts against the cutter.
