According to the present invention, disclosed is a method for decoding a video, comprising: a step of extracting encoded image data of the current picture allocated for a maximum encoding unit as the largest encoding unit, information on encoding mode and intensity for each maximum encoding unit, and encoding unit pattern information indicating whether the texture information for each maximum encoding unit has been encoded or not by receiving/parsing a bit stream of a encoded video; and a step of decoding the encoded image data for each maximum encoding unit based on the information of the encoding mode and intensity for each maximum encoding unit and the encoding unit pattern information. According to the present invention, an encoding unit is controlled by considering the characteristics an image, thereby enhancing image compression efficiency.
