An apparatus for reducing power consumption of a monitor in accordance with the present invention implements the apparatus for reducing power consumption of a monitor comprising: a DVI signal detection unit which detects a digital video interface signal (DVI signal) and outputs a first power consumption detection signal; and a time checking unit which detects a power signal of a monitor supplied to a backlight board for displaying and outputs a second power consumption detection signal; a microcomputer which determines a power consumption saving mode based on the first and second power consumption detection signal detected respectively from the DVI signal detection unit and the time checking unit, and saves a power consumption from a monitor by blocking a backlight signal from being generated; a power blockage unit which turns off a backlight signal generation unit to generate the backlight signal in the power consumption saving mode in response to controlling of the microcomputer, further comprising an EMI filter and a power consumption saving unit which is included between an input terminal of a commercial alternative voltage and a rectifier, and reduces a normal power consumption by blocking a current flowing through a discharge resistor in a capacitor for an EMI filter. |
