The present disclosure is related to a method for producing an immune response against Histophilus somni in an animal, by administering a recombinant peptide corresponding to a 42 kDa porin with a sequence of the amino acids 120 to 339. This invention is also related to a vaccine formulation against Histophilus somni comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a recombinant peptide corresponding to a 42 kDa porin with a sequence of the amino acids 129 to 339.
