The present invention relates to a coating composition to be formed as a coating layer on one surface or both surfaces of a thermoplastic resin base film such as polyester used as an optical film. disclosed are a coating composition and a thermoplastic resin film using the same. According to the present invention, UV-blocking properties and optical properties are excellent with respect to an optical film laminated on a base film, and ink adhesion is also excellent. Moreover, occurrence of stain on a film surface is prevented, and surface smoothness is excellent. The coating composition to be formed as a coating layer on one surface or both surfaces of a thermoplastic resin base film according to the present invention comprises: 1-40 wt% of a water dispersion binder resin; 0.1-30 wt% of a UV-blocker; 0.1-10 wt% of an inorganic oxide; 0.25-15 wt% of a hardening agent; 0.01-5 wt% of a wetting agent; 1-20 wt% of an organic solvent; and 40-97.5 wt% of water.
