In an engine-driven air compressor, an engine is kept idling and an air compression part is kept in standby at the point in time when an air storage tank becomes completely full. Therefore, there has conventionally been a problem in that fuel is needlessly consumed by the engine idling during a stage in which no air is produced. The purpose of the present invention is to reduce fuel consumption. In addition to an engine (11), an electric motor (21) is used as a power source for actuating an air compression part. A configuration is adopted in which the air compression part is actuated using the engine (11) as a power source while the air pressure in the air storage tank is lower than a first set pressure P1, and at the point in time when the first set pressure P1 is reached, the power source is switched from the engine (11) to the electric motor (21) to actuate the air compression part. |
