The present invention relates to a yaw brake pad monitoring apparatus of a wind power generator, and a control method thereof. The yaw brake pad monitoring apparatus comprises: a detecting unit for detecting a distance from a piston driving a yaw brake pad; a control unit for monitoring a wear amount of the yaw brake pad in real time by using a detecting signal of the detecting unit, and determining whether to exchange the yaw brake pad or not; and an alarm generating unit for notifying an exchange point of the yaw brake pad. By monitoring the wear amount of the yaw brake pad in real time, an exchange alarm of the yaw brake pad can be generated.
