The present invention relates to a system and a method for correcting location information of a surrounding vehicle, which can provide accurate location information of a surrounding vehicle by correcting the location information of the surrounding vehicle received through intervehicle communications. The system and the method of the present invention identify the plate number of a forward vehicle through a sensor mounted in the vehicle, compute the location of the forward vehicle, compare the location of the forward vehicle with location information included in the information including the identified plate number of the forward vehicle from the information received from the surrounding vehicle, and correct the location information. Therefore, the system and the method of the present invention can provide a driver or a driving assistance system with the accurate location information of the surrounding vehicle even when there is an error in the location information received from the surrounding vehicle due to the error of GPS signals by verifying and correcting the accuracy of the information received through the communications between the vehicles based on the information of the forward vehicle acquired by the sensor. The system of the present invention comprises: a forward vehicle information acquisition unit for computing the location of the forward vehicle; a surrounding vehicle information receiving unit for receiving the location information of the surrounding vehicle; and a location information correction unit for correcting the location information of the surrounding vehicle. |
