PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent capable of selectively absorbing and removing strontium contained in water without being affected substantially by calcium.SOLUTION: There is provided an absorbent of strontium containing barium silicate. The barium silicate is amorphous or crystalline. The absorbent has BET specific surface area of 15 m/g to 50 m/g. The absorbent suitably has a molar ratio of BaO/SiOof 0.6 o 0.7. The absorbent suitably contains a BaO component at a percentage of 50 mass% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
