PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flying insect detection device and a flying insect detection method which can highly accurately detect a flying insect flying in a space.SOLUTION: A flying insect detection device 100 includes: an optical detector 101; a support body 110; and a control device 120. The optical detector 101 includes: an IR irradiation source 103 emitting an infrared ray IR; and an IR optical receiver 104 receiving the infrared ray IR and outputting a detection signal. The optical detector 101 is arranged in a lower part of a detection target space DE as a detection target of a flying insect FB, irradiates the detection target space DE with the infrared ray IR from below, and receives the infrared ray IR reflected by a lower face of the flying insect FB. The support body 110 supports an IR reflection body 106 reflecting the infrared ray emitted from the IR irradiation light source 103 to a different direction from the IR optical receiver 104.
