PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add a display function to an illumination device in the case of using an organic EL element as a light source of the illumination device.SOLUTION: An illumination system 10 includes: an illumination device 100; a light irradiation device 200; and a controller 300. The illumination device 100 includes a substrate 101 and a light emitting unit 140. The light emitting unit 140 includes an organic layer 120. The light irradiation device 200 irradiates the illumination device 100 with light. The light includes a wavelength at which the organic layer 120 emits photoluminescence light.
