The invention relates to a timing system for measuring the running time of a runner (2), comprising two signal generators (5) for detecting the presence of the runner on a line (3,4.3) crossing the course, said generators having a light-beam source (6) and a light-beam receiver (7), which lie perpendicularly one beneath the other, and interacting with two reflectors (10) lying one beneath the other, in order to generate a presence signal when the centre of gravity of the runner crosses the start or finish line. The two signal generators can be attached to a revolving unit such that they can can lie selectively horizontally or perpendicularly to one another. Various courses can be established by the appropriate configuration of a base station (9). |
