The invention relates to a method for treating acid gas from coke plants and to a system for carrying out the method. An acid gas flow (2) is mixed with a circulating liquid (3) and cooled to a temperature of less than 60 °C. In the process, ammonium-containing components and steam are condensed upon contacting CO2, and ammonium salts are formed. A gaseous phase (6) is then separated. Additionally, a liquid phase (3) is returned to the process after the separation of undissolved ammonium salts and mixed with the acid gas flow (2) to be treated.
