The communication interface is configured to receive a command via a communication link to control the video modulator. The control circuitry is configured to receive the command from the communication interface and to control at least one of the video input interface, the video modulation circuit, and the video output interface based on the command.

A video distribution system, comprising: a plurality of receiver/modulator pairs, wherein each receiver/modulator pair comprises: a video receiver is configured to receive a specified video channel that is specified from a plurality of video channels provided to the video distribution system; anda video modulator communicatively coupled to the video receiver, wherein the video modulator includes a video modulation circuit, control circuitry and a video output interface,wherein the video modulation circuit is configured to receive the specified video channel from its respective video receiver,wherein the control circuitry is configured to control a modulation frequency used by the video modulation circuit to modulate the received specified video channel into a modulated video signal,wherein the modulated video signal is output at the specified modulation frequency from the video output interface, andwherein the modulation frequency specified for each of the plurality of receiver/modulator pairs are different; a communication node controllably coupled to the video receiver and the video modulator control circuitry, wherein the communication node is configured to specify the video channel and the modulation frequency for each of the plurality of receiver/modulator pairs; and a video combiner communicatively coupled to each video output interface, wherein each of the received modulated video signals output by each of the plurality of receiver/modulator pairs is combined and is output onto a distribution network that is communicatively coupled to the video distribution system.
