Disclosed is an image conversion apparatus comprising: an input unit for receiving input of a two-dimensional image; and a processor for estimating depth gradient information corresponding to the inputted two-dimensional image based on a two-dimensional sample image and depth information corresponding to the sample image, and for converting the inputted two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional image based on the estimated depth gradient information. The image conversion apparatus of the present invention can estimate the depth in order for objects included in a two-dimensional image to have a proper death order, thereby providing a vivid three-dimensional image.
