In a method for cleaning and maintaining the inner surface (14) of a pipe (16), a) a maintaining element (6) of a maintaining device (2) is applied to the inner surface (14) in a frictionally-engaged manner with a friction force (FR) and b) cyclically: I) a fixing element (8) is applied to the inner surface (14) in a frictionally-engaged manner with a fixing force (FF) greater than the friction force (FR), II) the maintaining element (6) moves in a desired maintaining direction (28), III) the fixing element (8) is lifted from the inner surface (14) so that the fixing element can be moved with a displacement force (FV) less than the friction force (FR), IV) the fixing element (8) moves in a desired displacement direction (29). A maintaining device (2) contains a maintaining element (6) that can be moved in the pipe (16) with a friction force (FR), a fixing element (8), which can be fixed in the pipe (16) with a fixing force (FF) and which can be lifted from the inner surface (14) so that the fixing element can be moved with a displacement force (FV), a fixing drive (10) for applying or lifting the fixing element (8), and a motion drive (12) for moving the maintaining element (6) and the fixing element (8) relative to one another. |
