DEVICE FOR IDENTIFYING AND DETECTING GASES BY MEANS OF ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETRY

The method involves ionizing gases to be identified. Drift times of positive and negative product-ions through drift spaces (24, 25) are measured. The measured drift times are evaluated. The product ions are formed by direct ionization or charge transfer reactions. The product ions are accelerated in drift speeds by a resulting electrical field for measuring the drift times. The product ions are simultaneously moved in parallel in a same direction. The product ions are injected into the drift spaces perpendicular to a preferred direction. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for identifying gases (2) a device for introducing ions into a drift space of an ion mobility spectrometer.
