The invention relates to a method and a device for post-treating C-containing base products produced during gassing of carbon-containing fossil fuels in an HTW method, in the direction of gravity downstream of the fluidised layer. According to said method and device, a more extensive oxidation is achieved using simple means in order to increase the carbon conversion in HTW gasifiers. This is achieved by supplying an oxidation agent impacting upon open-pored, ceramic elements (15 - 20), such as gas rinsing stones, foam ceramics or similar in a base product oxidator (2).
