PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic contactor that can be miniaturized while maintaining a sufficient arc-extinguishing function irrespective of the direction of current flowing in a contact point portion.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic contactor has a stationary contact support housing 4 for supporting a first stationary contact 5A and a second stationary contact 5B while keeping a predetermined interval therebetween so that the stationary terminal portions thereof protrude outwards; a movable contact 6 disposed in the stationary contact support housing so as to be capable of approaching to and separating from the stationary contact point portion of the first stationary contact and the stationary contact point portion of the second stationary contact; first magnet bodies 21a, 22a and second magnet bodies 21b, 22b which are disposed in parallel in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a movable contact so that the movable contact is sandwiched between the first and second magnet bodies and the confronting magnetic pole surfaces of the first and second magnet bodies have the same polarity; and a driving mechanism 3 for driving the movable contact so that the movable contact is capable of approaching to and separating from the first and second stationary contacts. The confronting magnetic pole surfaces of the first and second magnet bodies are set to different polarities. |
