Provided are an image processing apparatus and an image processing method, which can reduce operation costs required to detect a direction of an edge and improve detection precision when detecting the direction of the edge. The image processing apparatus comprises: a preprocessor configured to determine, based on an input image signal, a range of calculation for detecting a direction of an edge included in an image represented by the input image signal; and an edge direction detection unit configured to perform calculation within the calculation range determined based on the input image signal and detect the direction of the edge. |
