Disclosed are a radio frequency (RF) card reader and an operation method thereof. The RF card reader comprises an antenna, a proximity sensor unit, and a control unit. The antenna includes an antenna pattern and a ground. The proximity sensor unit applies a first voltage to the antenna pattern, senses a second voltage, which is a voltage between the antenna pattern and the ground, and determines proximity of an RF card through the sensed second voltage. The control unit controls the RF card reader to be operated, when the proximity sensor unit determines that the RF card is near. The purpose of the present invention is to provide an RF card reader configured to reduce power consumption. |
