The present invention relates to a display apparatus which provides a wake-on-LAN function capable of remotely controlling power of the display apparatus, and a method to control the same. The display apparatus comprises: a communication unit which receives a power-on command from an external device to execute the wake-on-LAN function; and a control unit which determines whether the wake-on-LAN function is turned on or off in accordance with a network setting state.
