The present invention relates to a system for distinguishing a vehicle and a method for the same. The system according to the present invention comprises: a light source detection unit which recognizes a light source in a front video recorded by a camera; a lane line recognition unit which recognizes at least one lane line in the front video; a centerline determination unit which determines whether the recognized line is a centerline; and a vehicle determination unit which determines whether the light source is from a preceding vehicle or an oncoming vehicle according to a location of the light source with respect to the lane line if the line is a centerline. Accordingly, vehicles can be quickly distinguished through a simple structure by determining the centerline based on the location and color of the lane line and whether the light source is a tail light of the preceding vehicle or a headlight of the upcoming vehicle based on the location of the light source with respect to the centerline, and operation capability of a front collision prevention system or an HBA system which classifies light sources for application can be improved. |
