the process comprising: reacting a feedstock in the presence of a catalyst in the riser reactor to form a reaction product; separating catalyst from the reaction product and returning the catalyst to the riser reactor through the catalyst return apparatus comprising at least one stage vessel; and holding a fluid comprising the catalyst in the at least one stage vessel for a residence time of at least 10 seconds.
