1. A method of controlling data transfers between a volatile memory and a non-volatile storage, the volatile memory being on a memory device operatively coupled to a computer system, the method comprising:
storing persistent and non-persistent data from the volatile memory to the non-volatile storage in response to a failure of a primary power source of the computer system; and, following re-establishment of a primary power source, selectively restoring only persistent data from the non-volatile storage to the volatile memory after completion of Power-On Self-Test (POST) operations, wherein the selective restoring only persistent data from the non-volatile storage to the volatile memory comprises restoring to the volatile memory less than a total of the persistent and non-persistent data stored to the non-volatile storage.
