PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal alignment agent from which such a liquid crystal alignment film can be formed that can provide a liquid crystal display element showing no degradation in display quality even exposed to intense light for a long time, substantially preventing generation of so-called unevenness or afterimage and that substantially prevents peeling or scraping.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal alignment agent contains at least one polymer (a) selected from a polyamic acid and derivatives of the polyamic acid obtained by the reaction of a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and diamine. The tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride comprises at least one of tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides represented by formula (1) and at least one compound selected from tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides having an alicyclic structure or an aliphatic structure.
