PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine if a developing unit attached to an image forming apparatus is used or new by using toner detection means necessary for the original image forming operation.SOLUTION: When a time elapsed from supply of a toner to a developing unit to detection of the presence of the toner by toner detection means in the developing unit exceeds a threshold, an image forming apparatus determines that the developing unit did not have a toner therein before the start of the supply and a new developing unit has been installed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
