PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of automatically detecting the upper surface shape of each of a plurality of can bodies while the can bodies are stored in a predetermined case (storage container).SOLUTION: The following method of detecting the upper surface shape of a can body is determined to be effective. In a state in which a plurality of can bodies are stored in a predetermined case (storage container) made of cardboard or the like and the upper surface of the case is opened, a band-like region that includes the center part of the upper surface of each of the can bodies and crosses the can body diameter including the seaming part is continuously scanned from the upside with a laser beam, and the reflected light of the laser beam is detected.
