PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester resin composition for a solar cell film having a small amount of carboxyl terminal groups, excellent hydrolysis resistance and elongation retention and less unevenness in elongation retention.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a polyester resin composition by subjecting a polycarboxylic acid component and a diol component to an esterification reaction and followed by performing a polycondensation reaction and a solid-phase polymerization reaction, where a tri- or higher functional polycarboxylic acid component is added before the polycondensation reaction to produce a polyester resin composition having an intrinsic viscosity (IV) before the solid-phase polymerization of 0.40 to 0.50. There is provided a method for producing a polyester resin composition in which a tri- or higher functional polycarboxylic acid component is added and subsequently 0.1 to 7.0 mol/t of an alkali phosphate is added.SELECTED DRAWING: None
