PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent composite substrate using a binding layer to achieve a composite of the glass substrate and the sapphire substrate without using any adhesives.SOLUTION: A transparent composite substrate 100 includes a glass substrate 110, a sapphire substrate 120, and a binding layer 130 disposed between the glass substrate 110 and the sapphire substrate 120 to bond the glass substrate 110 and the sapphire substrate 120. The hydrophilic lower surface 124 of the sapphire substrate 120 and the hydrophilic upper surface 112 of the glass substrate 110 adsorb hydroxyl groups which form silanol bonds (Si--OH). The hydroxyl groups also react with aluminum in the sapphire substrate 120 to form aluminum alcohol bonds (Al--OH).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
