摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a holding material for an exhaust gas purification device which is suitable for punching an inorganic fiber molding having a comparatively high bulk density; and a punching die.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a holding material for an exhaust gas purification device includes: sandwiching a sheet-like inorganic fiber molding between a punching die having a substrate, a punching blade provided vertically relative to the substrate and an elastic body arranged in the punching blade on the substrate, and a receiving plate; pressing them; and punching a holding material for an exhaust gas purification device from the inorganic fiber molding. The inorganic fiber molding is subjected to kneading treatment, a bulk density of the inorganic fiber molding is in a range of 0.160 g/cmor more and 0.250 g/cmor less, and a 25% compression load of the elastic body is in a range of 1 kPa or more and 20 kPa or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
