摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of starting a reading operation at a relatively early stage even when reading of a white reference body is necessary prior to the reading operation.SOLUTION: A control section performs a reading operation in an FB mode where moving a carriage 53 having a reading section 52 and reading a manuscript on a manuscript table 33 and in an ADF mode where reading the manuscript transported by a manuscript transportation section 35 by the carriage 53 positioned at a reading position SC. An image reading device comprises: a first white reference board 81 disposed at a standby position (first white reference reading position W1) of the FB mode; and a second white reference board 82 positioned at an opposite side to the first white reference board 81 with the reading position SC of a second mode interposed therebetween in a sub-scanning direction X. In the case where reading of the white reference board is necessary in the second mode, the first white reference board 81 is read and, subsequently, the carriage 53 is moved to the reading position SC when the carriage 53 is positioned at the standby position of the FB mode, and, on the other hand, the second white reference board 82 is read and, subsequently, the carriage 53 is moved to the reading position SC when the carriage 53 is positioned at a standby position (second white reference reading position W2) of the ADF mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
