PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material which has excellent abrasion resistance at high temperatures and produces less noise when the friction material component does not contain copper having a high environmental burden or even when it contains 0.5 mass% or less of copper.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a friction material composition that comprises a binding agent, an organic filling material, an inorganic filling material, and a fiber substrate, where the friction material composition either does not comprise therein copper as an element or comprises 0.5 mass% or less of copper. The friction material composition further comprises: 2-30 mass% of potassium titanate having a plurality of convex shapes; and 1-7 mass% of iron powder.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
