PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the burden on the positioning work of a pass line in a drawing step and prevent a drawn optical fiber from being broken by contact with a peripheral, such as a forced cooling device.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical fiber comprises: a suspension step of holding an optical fiber preform 6 by a chuck 3 supported in a cantilever state on a drawing tower 2 supporting a drawing furnace 5 and capable of horizontally adjusting a holding position to suspend the optical fiber preform in the drawing furnace 5; and a drawing step of heating and drawing the optical fiber preform 6 to manufacture an optical fiber 7. Before the suspension step, the holding position is moved by a predetermined amount to the side of the drawing tower 2 with regard to a pass line central position in the state that the optical fiber preform 6 is not held on the chuck 3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
