The present invention relates to a food composition for improving diabetes mellitus comprising, as an active ingredient, a new variety of red pepper called Capsicumannuum/Hana 4176 (Accession No. KCTC18413P) or an extract thereof, and to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating diabetes mellitus. According to the present invention, the new variety of red pepper called Capsicumannuum/Hana 4176 (Accession No. KCTC18413P) or the extract thereof: increases insulin reactivity in an insulin tolerance test (ITT); increases phosphorylation of Akt protein which is a biomarker of insulin signal transduction; and shows an excellent effect of improving, preventing, or treating diabetes mellitus. |
