The present invention relates to a method to operate an electric arc furnace comprising: a furnace shell having a tapping device; a plurality of electrodes; and a rotation device rotating the furnace shell about a vertical axis with respect to the electrodes. The method to operate the electric arc furnace comprises: a charging step of opening an opening and closing door of a scrap bucket including metal material, and dropping the metal material into the furnace shell. A center of the furnace shell is rotated by the rotation device until a direction of a line connected to the center of the tapping hole is intersected with a depth extending direction of a closing side of the opening and closing door. The opening and closing door becomes free from a positional relationship to charge the metal material. The method to operate the electric arc furnace is able to effectively resolve a problem which a powder type-metal material is accumulated near the tapping hole, and maintains the non-melted state thereof when the metal material is charged from the scrap bucket to the shell. |
