Provided is a paper currency processing apparatus (1) that is provided with a removable paper currency storage unit, in which the operation of replenishing the paper currency is simple, and human-caused setting errors, etc., are prevented, without the number of components being increased. The paper currency storage unit (4) is equipped with: a paper currency storage compartment (7) having a stacking plate (81) provided parallel to the paper currency present in a paper currency path unit (5) so as to be normally urged roughly perpendicularly to the surface of the paper currency, and in the direction of the paper currency path unit (5); a paper currency receiving unit (51) for separating the longitudinal side edge of the paper currency in the paper currency storage compartment (7) and the longitudinal side edge of the paper currency passing through the paper currency path unit (5); and a latch mechanism (71) in which there are formed projecting parts (74) and holding parts (75) that move in association with operation parts (72). The apparatus is configured such that the projecting parts (74) normally project outward from the left and right side sections of the paper currency storage unit (4), and retreat into the paper currency storage compartment (7) when the operation parts (72) are operated. When the operation parts (72) are operated, the holding parts (75) hold a part of the stacking plate (81) located at an end that can move in the opposite direction from the paper currency path unit (5), and limit the movement forward of the stacking plate (81). |
