A mode converter provided in an embodiment of the present invention comprises an input multimode waveguide, an output multimode waveguide, and a first conversion waveguide. The input multimode waveguide is used for receiving a first signal, the mode of the first signal being a first mode. The first conversion waveguide is provided with an input coupled waveguide with a first effective refractive index and an output coupled waveguide with a second effective refractive index. The first conversion waveguide is used for performing, by means of the input coupled waveguide, evanescent wave coupling on the first signal in the first mode transmitted in the input multimode waveguide, and for coupling the first signal to a second mode of the output multimode waveguide by means of the output coupled waveguide, so as to obtain a first signal in a second mode. The output multimode waveguide is used for outputting the first signal in the second mode. |
