PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine and a control method of the internal combustion engine that can detect abnormality of the internal combustion engine by oil combustion etc., more accurately using an actual engine rotating speed, a target engine rotating speed, and a target fuel injection amount, and can start an engine stop operation when detecting an abnormal state.SOLUTION: Engine stop operation control to perform an operation aiming at an engine stop using equipment for engine stop is performed by: setting a second determination rotating speed Nec2 in isochronous operation by adding a rotating speed increment ΔNec to a target engine rotating speed Net; setting a supply target fuel injection amount Wf into an air cylinder 11c to zero at a point t1 of time when an actual engine rotating speed Nem measured during isochronous operation exceeds a second determination rotating speed Nec2; and determining a second abnormal state when an operation time (t2-t1) in which the actual engine rotating speed Nem exceeds the second determination rotating speed Nec2 from the first point t1 of time exceeds a preset determination time tc.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
