The present invention provides a method for preparing a nitrile-based rubber having an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile content of 34 wt% or less, the method comprising the steps of: preparing a polymer by adding ethylenically unsaturated nitrile-based monomers to conjugated diene-based monomers in two or more portions, followed by a polymerization reaction; and coagulating the polymer by adding a sulfur-based coagulant to the polymer, and provides a nitrile-based rubber prepared by the method, the nitrile-based rubber having improved mechanical characteristics together with excellent processability and low-temperature characteristics.
