PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image quality deterioration when deblocking filtering is applied, in a case where a subtractive color compression technique is used.SOLUTION: An image encoding apparatus comprises a deblock filter which performs filtering for removing block distortion; and reduction means which reduces the effect of filtering on an area compressed by a subtractive color compression mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
