The purpose of the present invention is to provide an optical apparatus having illumination and display capabilities, that is simple in construction, and manufactured easily and inexpensively. This optical apparatus (1) is provided with: an illumination unit having at least a light-emitting unit (2) for radiating light; a diffusion unit (4) having a diffusion element (40) divided into at least a first diffusion element region (41) in which predetermined information is recorded in advance, and a second diffusion element region (42) in which information different from that in the first diffusion element region (41) is recorded; and a scan unit (3) with which the diffusion unit (4) is moveable such that the light radiated by the light-emitting unit (2) scans at least one of the first diffusion element region (41) and the second diffusion element region (42).
