Provided is a video decoding method, which comprises the steps of: determining an intra prediction mode for a current sub-block which is one of a plurality of sub-blocks generated by dividing an upper block; determining reference samples of the current sub-block on the basis of adjacent samples of the upper block; determining predicted values of current samples included in the current sub-block, using the reference samples, according to the intra prediction mode; and reconstructing the current sub-block on the basis of the predicted values, wherein the current samples included in the current sub-block are excluded from reference samples of another sub-block included in the upper block.
