Provided are: a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for a surface protection film, the composition enabling formation of a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer by which staining and metal corrosion of an adherend are reduced, which exhibits an appropriate adhesive strength, and in which an increase in adhesive strength following a high temperature production process is suppressed; and a surface protection film having the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for a surface protection film is characterized in that a (meth)acrylic resin (A) is obtained by solution polymerization of a polymerizable monomer that contains, in an amount within the range of 30.0-99 mass %, an alkyl methacrylate ester having 4 or fewer carbon atoms in the alkyl group, is characterized by exhibiting properties (a1), (a2) and (a3), and is characterized by containing a hexamethylene diisocyanate-based crosslinking agent (B) at a quantity whereby the gel fraction in a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer formed from the pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for a surface protection film falls within the range 90.0-99.9 mass %. (a1) The weight average molecular weight (Mw) in terms of polystyrene, as measured using a GPC method, is 1,200,000-2,000,000. (a2) The molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) is 4-9. (a3) The acid value is 2 mg KOH/g or lower. |
