The present invention relates to a system and a method for preventing a collision of a vehicle. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the system and method for preventing a collision of a vehicle determines the range of sight which can be visually secured by a driver′s, by identifying an object from a color camera installed on the vehicle and comparing an object identification rate with a critical value defined in a dictionary. When the object identification rate is lower than the critical value, difficulty to secure sight by the driver is determined, an infrared camera is driven to identify the object on an infrared image, and object information on the identified object is mapped on an image photographed by the color camera to be output, thereby allowing the driver to easily identify the object positioned frontward. In addition, according to the present invention, the possibility of collision with the identified object is determined using information on the object identified from the infrared image. When the possibility of collision is determined, the driver is alerted through at least one of a visual display and sound, thereby preventing the vehicle from colliding with the object. |
