The method involves generating an electric starting pulse based on a magnetic field at a permanent magnet (9). A reply pulse is generated at a measuring section (7) at an end of a detector (3), and duration between the starting and reply pulses is calculated. Another reply pulse is generated within a measuring cycle initiated by the starting pulse. Another time duration taken by the reply pulse to reflect from a reflection device (5) to the magnet is determined. A position of the magnet is detected as a correct position if sum of the durations corresponds to doubled length of the section. An independent claim is also included for a position determining device. |
