A retro-fit battery system 37 for attachment to a mobile workstation, e.g. a medical cart, having a generally upright post 35. The battery system comprises a main body designed to at least partially surround the post 35, and at least one battery docking mount 123. In a first aspect the battery system 37 comprises a means of removable attachment to the post 35. The main body further comprises an electrical outlet (Figure 3c, 31) and a control system (Figure 2, 29). In a second aspect the main body is formed of two identical sections (Figure 9 101, 102), each section comprising: a channel on the inner surface that in use surrounds the post 35; a battery docking unit on an outer wall; and a slot 115 on an inner wall for the passage of cables between the sections. In a third aspect the main body is formed of two sections 39, 41 hingedly attached, defining between the sections a channel (Figure 2, 15) for locating around and griping the post 35. At least one battery docking unit 123 and a control system (Figure 2, 29) is located on the exterior of one of the sections 39,41. |
