Class 120.(iii) [Also in Group XVII] Yarn cakes are enclosed within a plurality of permeable coverings and subjected to wet-processing and drying treatments. A mandrel or core 6, Fig. 2, is positioned within a fabric sock or sleeve 7 surrounded by a paper sleeve 8, the ends of the sleeves are tucked into the open ends of the mandrel and secured by bands 9 as shown in Fig. 3, and the mandrel placed in a winding device. After a yarn cake 11 has been wound on to the mandrel. the end portions of the sleeves are folded in succession over the cake, as shown in Fig. 5, and the wrapped cake removed from the mandrel and subjected to the usual wet-processing and drying treatments. The sleeve 7 is then removed for re-use, leaving the wrapper 8 in position to protect the cake during subsequent handling, storage and transport.
