Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for obtaining continuity of random number output signals during Von Neumann post-processing. A random number generating device adopting Von Neumann post-processing according to an aspect of the present invention comprises: a first random number generating unit which generates random numbers having randomness not smaller than a preset value; a converting unit which converts a random number sequence generated in the first random number generating unit to a plurality of pieces of parallel data; a plurality of Von Neumann post-processing units which remove biases in the plurality of pieces of parallel data converted by the converting unit by using a Von Neumann post-processing technique, and output the processed result; a first multiplexer which receives the random numbers outputted from the Von Neumann post-processing units and selectively outputs one among the random numbers; a memory buffer which stores the random number outputted from the first multiplexer; a blank checking unit which checks whether all of the random numbers stored in the memory buffer are consumed; a second random number generating unit which generates a preliminary random number; and a second multiplexer which outputs the random number stored in the memory buffer when there are remaining random numbers in the memory buffer, or outputs the preliminary random number, which is being generated in the second random number generating unit, when all of the random numbers stored in the memory buffer are consumed. According to the present invention, continuity of random number output signals during Von Neumann post-processing is guaranteed. Therefore, Von Neumann post-processing can be applied to a system such as a quantum key distribution system which has to supply random numbers continuously in synchronous with a reference clock. |
